Annual Report
AIRPORT DIVISION
The County Airport continues its success under the direction of the Genesee County Highway Department. Airport operations created positive revenue for the County in excess of $96,000 for fiscal year 2010. The expanding facility continues to be an important piece of the transportation infrastructure of the County and a significant tool for economic development.
Fixed Based Operator
Total fuel sales for 2010 increased 5.5 % year over year and Jet Fuel sales continued to increase. Total sales of Jet Fuel accounted for nearly 57% of all sales compared to 22.6% of all sales in 2002 and only 17.2% in 2001. Jet fuel sales increased 19% year to year, while 100LL sales decreased slightly from 2009. This change reflects a marketing initiative to attract more corporate/business traffic.
Hangar Development
Genesee County recently constructed and leased an additional 8-Bay T-Hangar. This brings the total number of multi-bay hangars for lease at the airport up to 38. The hangar cost $474,500 to build with $300,000 provided in state aid. The new hangar unit produces approximately $28,000 in annual revenue and adds to the based aircraft purchasing fuel at the Airport.
Hangar rent makes up a large portion of the revenue produced by the County Airport and strong demand for hangars and space is one of the reasons the Airport has managed to produce surplus revenue since 2001.
The airport has also seen a dramatic increase in private investment. Two large corporate style hangars are now under construction. These facilities are privately-owned and contribute to both the Airport business and the local tax base.
Business Development
Boshart Enterprises continues to expand its aviation repair and avionics business at the County Airport. Bob Miller Flight Training Inc also chose the Genesee County Airport to expand its flight school business. Genesee County recently completed the renewals of all of its long-term leases with businesses, services and tenants through at least 2016.
