RECRUITMENT & RETENTION TRAINING SAFER Grant |
| Genesee County Emergency Management Services has partnered with Insights2Improvement, Inc. to provide our local volunteer leaders with training to support their efforts in recruiting, engaging and retaining great volunteers. Initial training programming will be three hours in length and delivered in a single session. Training programs will be provided at the GCEMS Training Center. |

Engaging & Motivating Volunteers Wednesday, May 8, 2013 7:00 PM-9:00 PM Leaders and volunteers attending this program will complete a personal Workplace Expectations Profile Inventory for use in this training session. They will explore how each of the ten expectations can impact volunteer engagement and how as volunteer leaders they can better interact with their team and create environments that support an active volunteer workforce. Expectations that will be explored include: Autonomy, Balance, Growth, Diversity, Environment, Expression, Recognition, Stability, Structure & Teamwork. This is the same course that was offered in March, 2012 if you have already attended.

FIREFIGHTER I Course #01-05-0019
|
| As the initial entry program for firefighting personnel, Firefighter I introduces firefighting concepts, practices and techniques necessary for success within the fire service. Based on the Firefighter Level I objectives from NFPA Standard 1001, this course develops knowledge, skills, and abilities based on performance criteria for the following topics: fire department organization, firefighter safety, fire behavior, personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, building searches, forcible entry, ground ladders, ventilation, hose practices, fire streams, and loss control. The course consists of performance criteria in: incident command, building construction, ropes/knots, rescue procedures, forcible entry applications, suppression of structural fires, tactics, vehicle suppression, water supply, loss control, fire cause determination, fire department communications, fire suppression systems, hazardous materials, weapons of mass destruction, confined space safety and fire prevention practices. |

| This is the first course in the Fire Officer series addressing the job performance requirements of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. Topics include assuming the role of company officer, fire department organization, leadership, supervision, fire department communications, the company officer’s role in safety, size-up, strategy & tactics for engine and truck companies; single company operations, error management and human factors, implementing the life safety initiatives, group dynamics, pre-incident planning, fire inspection practices, information management, budgets, company level training, community relations and customer service, labor relations, and strategy & tactics for multiple company operations |

BASIC WILDLAND FIRE SUPPRESSION
|
| Basic Wildland Fire Suppression has been developed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control for firefighters involved in wildland fire suppression. Course content includes jurisdiction and responsibilities, fire behavior, wildland fire suppression, securing the control line and standards for safety. |

APPARATUS OPERATOR - AERIAL DEVICE Course # 01-05-0003

| This course is designed to follow the NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications and provide the student with knowledge necessary to operate, inspect and maintain aerial devices. Course content includes emergency vehicle operations review, classification and typing, vehicle inspection, operation of various types of aerial devices including platforms and ladders, proper locations of placement and setup at an incident including driving, spotting and stabilizing. |

FIREFIGHTER II (Course #01-05-0020)
|
| Designed as the last step in initial level training for interior structural firefighters and/or those who will serve as team or group leaders under the general supervision of an officer, this course introduces new more advanced areas that will be expanded upon in other training programs. With the exception of those NFPA Firefighter Level II objectives pertaining to Vehicle Extrication techniques, a firefighter receives the training components equivalent to those found within NFPA Firefighter II Standard. Firefighter II is based on objectives from NFPA Standard 1001, Firefighter Level II, and consists of performance criteria in: incident command implementation, building materials and collapse, special rescue, hydrant flow and operability, hose tools, foam operations, flammable liquid/gases, detection, alarm systems, fire department communications, pre-fire planning, special situations, strategy and tactics. |

E.V.O.C. Utica Mutual Emergency Vehicle Operations
|
| This course provides vehicle operators with a better understanding of the seriousness of emergency vehicle operations. Based on objectives from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this course stimulates the thought process to make students aware of the potential for tragedy and financial loss and of the legal and moral responsibilities encountered when operating an emergency vehicle. |
