ACTIVITIES AIDE

 

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This work involves responsibility for assisting in the conduct of a varied program of social, recreational and other purposeful activities, in the County Nursing Facility.  The work is performed under the direction or guidance of an Activities Leader.                                      

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Assists patients and residents in craft projects;

Organizes, and acts as leader in games and other forms of recreation;

Prepares equipment, supplies and facilities for special entertainment or recreational activities;

Aides in the preparation and serving of refreshments;

Assists with assessment of patient's and resident's interests;

Visits patients, and provides companionship and conversation;

Distributes birthday gifts, cakes, cards, and other personal items;

Assists with development of the activities-program schedule;

Attends, and participates in the facility’s in-service education program;

Arranges for movies, picnics, theme days, and other events;

Utilizes community resources in the conduct of the activities program;

Aides in inventorying supplies and equipment.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY, AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Working knowledge of arts, crafts, games, sports, hobbies and other purposeful activities; working knowledge of geriatrics; ability to stimulate and maintain patient's and resident's interest in participation in activities; ability to work with the aged and ill; ability to guide and instruct volunteers; good judgment and emotional stability.
