About Our Sheriff

Sheriff  
  Sheriff William A. Sheron, Jr. was first elected Sheriff of Genesee County 
  in 2017.  He began his law enforcement career with the Genesee 
  County Sheriff’s Office in 1977 at the age of 18 as an Emergency
  Services Dispatcher.  Sheriff Sheron progressed through the ranks of the
  Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff-Jail, Deputy Sheriff-Road Patrol,
  Sergeant, Investigator and Chief Deputy Road Patrol.  He served as
  Undersheriff from 1996 through 2016.

  Education & Training: Sheriff Sheron is a graduate of Notre Dame High
  School in Batavia, New York and earned an Associate in Applied Science
  Degree in Criminal Justice from Genesee Community College.  He is a
  graduate of the prestigious F.B.I. National Academy, the F.B.I. Law
  Enforcement Executive Development Seminar and has completed numerous
  law enforcement and corrections training courses.

Honors and Affiliations: Sheriff Sheron is a past president of the FBI National Academy Associates New York State/Eastern Canada Chapter and currently serves as the chapter’s Secretary/Treasurer.  He has served on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association of Genesee and Orleans Counties and is a past Vice President of the Genesee County Alcohol Substance Abuse.  He is a current member of the Genesee County Traffic Safety Board, Genesee County STOP D.W.I. Advisory Committee, Genesee County Domestic Violence Committee, New York State Sheriffs’ Association, F.B.I. National Academy Associates, F.B.I. Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, Batavia Kiwanis Club, Genesee County Republican Committee, Genesee County Women’s Republican Club, and the City of Batavia Republican Committee.

Personal: Sheriff Sheron and his wife, Shari, reside in Batavia.  He is the father of two children, three stepchildren and six grandchildren.
