Genesee County AmeriCorps may be for you!
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal government agency. The Corporation’s mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. Throughout the country, Americans of all backgrounds are engaged in service to meet community needs. Genesee County AmeriCorps members bring this dedication and commitment to our area.
Members sign a contract agreeing to perform a specific number of service hours over a fixed time frame which can be as long as 12 months in duration. Summer placements are also available. Members earn a modest living allowance while serving and are eligible for an education award grant upon successful completion of the service commitment.
Genesee County AmeriCorps offers three levels of participation. Half-time members must complete 900 hours of service, quarter-time members complete 450 hours and minimum-time members complete 300 hours. The length of the term can be tailored to meet the needs of the member and the host site.Members are placed at a variety of host sites in the Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming County areas. Assignments vary by site but fall under one or more of these focus areas: Healthy Futures fitness and nutrition education for youth, Environmental Stewardship education for youth and Capacity Building for agencies through volunteer recruitment and enhanced use of technology.
