What is Genesee Youth Lead?
The Genesee Community College’s Accelerated College Enrollment (ACE) Program and Genesee County Youth Bureau have partnered together to offer Genesee County sophomores, juniors and seniors the Genesee County Youth Lead Program. The program is focused on developing leadership skills within an individual through each specific session and through hands on experience. Program Benefits
The cost of the program for a student is fifty five dollars but what the students gets out of this program is worth a whole lot more. These students get the opportunity to learn about leadership in the classroom and then learn what is missing in their community after visiting and asking questions on the GYL field trips. They then get the opportunity to learn how they can help make a positive change in their community. The classes also work on developing the students’ individual leadership skills and how to use them effectively within a group and as part of a community. The students focus on their strongest leadership skills and learn how they can be applied to their lives and futures.
Genesee Youth Lead Criteria All students who apply for the Genesee Youth Lead program must be enrolled in 10th - 12th grade in a Genesee County High School. Applications are due by February as the program is only offered in the spring. Ideal candidates will have carefully considered and have the time to commit to the program where the classes are held weekly on Saturdays for eight weeks. Youth that complete the program are encouraged to use the skills and information gained through the experience to support the communities in which they live. Genesee Youth Lead Topics
Each session has been developed to focus on a specific topic that targets issues that leaders in our county deal with.
