Pre-Requisites:

Students must be physically capable of wearing SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) and possess current medical clearance for SCBA use.  Students not possessing this pre-requisite will not be allowed to participate for their own safety.  A complete “Training Authorization Letter” mailed with your registration will meet this requirement.

As the initial entry program for firefighting personnel, Firefighter I introduces firefighting concepts, practices and techniques necessary for success within the fire service.  Based on the Firefighter Level I objectives from NFPA Standard 1001, this course develops knowledge, skills, and abilities based on performance criteria for the following topics:  fire department organization, firefighter safety, fire behavior, personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, building searches, forcible entry, ground ladders, ventilation, hose practices, fire streams, and loss control.  The course consists of performance criteria in:  incident command, building construction, ropes/knots, rescue procedures, forcible entry applications, suppression of structural fires, tactics, vehicle suppression, water supply, loss control, fire cause determination, fire department communications, fire suppression systems, hazardous materials, weapons of mass destruction, confined space safety and fire prevention practices.

This course provides vehicle operators with a better understanding of the seriousness of emergency vehicle operation. Based on objectives from National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this course stimulates the thought process to make students aware of the potential for tragedy and financial loss and of the legal and moral responsibilities encountered when operating an emergency vehicle.

Fire/EMS Personnel

The purpose of this course is to address the supervisory and administrative issues regularly confronted in the fire service. Officers will be informed on the “state” of the Emergency Management Office, the Emergency Support Unit (ESU) team, and facility upgrades to the Fire Training Center.  Officers will obtain a thorough understanding of the new rope law, the revised open burn law and workman’s compensation law.  An overview of ICS 100, 200 and 700 as well as run cards and the County’s Communications SOG will enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident.  Training issues will be addressed including enrollment of students, access of training records through the “TIMS” system, input into development, tri-county “boot camp” and the role of county fire instructors in conducting OSHA and HazMat “refresher” programs

Target Audience:

Fire personnel involved in fund raising and social activities where alcohol is served or provided.

The purpose of the Responsible Server Course is to teach any person who sells or serves alcoholic beverages how to serve alcohol responsibly. Topics in this course include: how to spot a fake id, how to tell when someone is intoxicated, how to cut someone off when they've had too much to drink, as well as the State laws and legal responsibilities of a server.  Participants will learn how alcohol affects the brain, how to identify behavioral indicators to assess a customers level of intoxication and signs that a customer may be underage.  This course is sponsored by Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (GCASA) along with Shepard, Maxwell & Hale Insurance Company.
