Individual Course Descriptions

Writing Your Resume
EVERY job searcher should have a resume.  A resume that puts your experience and education or training in the best possible light.  We will discuss I versus 2 pages; the difference between a job duty and an accomplishment;  employer expectations and much more!  Bring with you your information.  Let us help you get  started; you will leave with a rough draft of your resume.  Typing services are available at no cost to you.

Interviewing Skills
Learn to make a great first impression and answer questions calmly and correctly at interviews.  Interviewing has changed dramatically in the last six months so get the most up-to-minute advise.  Learn to handle group interviews, tough questions, and how to answer the questions you wish they wouldn’t ask!  Also covers how to handle illegal questions, behavioral questions, and mental processing questions.  Plus learn the number one way to turn an interview into a job offer!

Career Exploration
Learn what careers are in demand in our area and how you can qualify for these high demand careers. Identify your transferable skills, discover what careers will give you the best opportunity for job satisfaction, and learn to repackage your skills for jobs of the future. Although no career is completely “recession proof”, there are careers that are in demand during good times and bad. Learn how you can qualify for these good paying careers.

Job Club
A small, informal group, facilitated by an Employment Counselor, that meets weekly to network, share job leads and articles of interest, and to discuss various  job search techniques.  Join us when you can!

Job Application (on-line and paper) & Cover Letters
Learn why applications have to be neat and complete and what an effective cover letter sounds and looks like, and why the following statement is still true.  Before we can sell ourselves in  person, we must sell ourselves on paper.

Navigating the Civil Service System
Explore the opportunities in civil service available to people with all levels of education and experience.  Learn how to find the jobs that match your career goals and how to apply.  You will receive a list of upcoming exams, information on where to find resources to prepare for exams and much more.

Resume Development Lab
Create your resume.  Must have completed Writing Your Resume workshop to attend.

Career Navigator Program
Jump start your job search with this 5-day interactive, strategic approach to proactively managing your future.  Learn how to redefine your skills to fit existing and emerging industries and occupations.  Design a job search strategy to fit your values, skills and goals.  Learn the marketing techniques that will get your message out to the people that make the hiring decisions.

Linkedin
LinkedIn is a professional networking website which can be used effectively to find work and is also being used by recruiters to find prospective candidates.  Learn how to use LinkedIn as part of your job search.  This workshop includes how to develop your profile, how to connect with people in your industry, how to search for jobs, and how to find information on your target companies.
