Great Oaks from Little Acorns Grow!
- Do you enjoy the outdoors?
- Do you want to learn more about the living things around us?
- Is conservation of resources important to you?
In 2006, a group of dedicated volunteers at the Genesee County Park & Forest formed a group called Association for Conservation of Recreational and Natural Spaces (ACORNS). The mission of ACORNS is to serve the public by fostering environmental education, recreational opportunities and responsible environmental stewardship at the Genesee County Park.
The goals of ACORNS include:
- Increase membership (a volunteer base for the Park)
- Promote the use of the Interpretive Nature Center
- Raise funds to support programs and activities through sponsorship, fundraisers, grants and donations
- Assist environmental educators with programs
- Assist in providing recreational opportunities to general public (i.e. snowshoeing, skiing)
- Seek training opportunities for members and staff
- Assist park staff in maintaining facilities, grounds, trails, environmental components
- Communicate and cooperate with members, other agencies and groups including the public who have an interest in the Geneses County Park
- Assist with promoting and marketing related to the Genesee County Park
