Genesee County Bedrock Geology

The Onondaga Limestone bedrock is seen across Genesee County as a ledge called the Onondaga Escarpment. It is a bedrock layer of hard limestone and dolostone that slope slightly to the south and forms a steep face in a line across New York State into Canada. Many spectacular waterfalls are formed by streams flowing over it and steep roads cross over the ridge.
