The Genesee County Park & Forest, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, was established in 1915 and is recognized as the first County Forest in New York State. There are two main parks in Genesee County, 11095 Bethany Center Road, East Bethany and 115 Cedar Street, Batavia. There are always opportunities for volunteers.

The Genesee County Planning Department provides planning services to the County and its municipalities and disseminates information to private agencies and citizens. The Department is involved in county planning projects, local technical assistance, housing, environment, transportation, economic development, capital programming, education, data dissemination, SEQR reviews, County Water System, Smart Growth, agriculture and farmland protection, the County's Comprehensive Plan and other special County projects. The Department is also the staff to the County Planning Board which is responsible for undertaking reviews of local planning actions including construction and development projects under Section 239 L, M & N of New York State General Municipal Law.

The Health Department fulfills its mission through the provision of primary, preventive, rehabilitative, health educational and referral services. The main service areas include: home care, long term home health care, family health, infant health assessment, disease control, screening and diagnostic clinics, immunizations, children with special needs, environmental health, health education, laboratory and various grant funded programs.

The Central Services Department administers the purchasing functions for Genesee County. This includes the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment and services. The Mission of Central Services is to provide for the procurement of the highest quality goods and services at the most efficient cost for county departments. This is achieved by utilizing the Sealed Bid, Request For Proposal and Quoting procedures. Purchasing is committed to implementing new strategies of reducing operating costs through procuring products and services that represent the best value for department users and local taxpayers. Central Services maintains the Inventory Control records and appraisal of County property for fixed asset purposes. Central Service Printing and Mail Division offers printing, forms design, postal service and interoffice courier service to all County departments

Starting in 2010, the Treasurer’s Office was merged with the Real Property Tax Services Department.  The merged department will continue to be called the Treasurer’s Office.  The Real Property Tax Services Division of the Treasurer’s Office exists to assist and support all municipalities within Genesee County with their responsibilities to provide for a fair and equitable administration of the real property tax.  The division provides many services which benefit individuals as well as municipal representatives and business people.

The Mission of the Genesee County Sheriff's Office is to provide public service and protection to the citizens of the community. They're responsibilities include the enforcement of all federal, state and local laws; maintaining peace and order in the county; protecting property and personal safety; providing professional public safety dispatching services, animal control; and generally assisting citizens in need. Other responsibilities include, providing a safe and secure jail, ensuring proper care, custody, treatment, supervision and discipline for all persons committed to the custody of the Sheriff, and to properly receive and execute any and all legal civil processes referred to the Office of the Sheriff.

The Genesee County Department of Social Services provides a wide range of financial assistance and social service programs to the needy and vulnerable citizens of our County. The Department is responsible for a significant part of the "social safety net" which insures that basic human needs will be met. Virtually all our programs and services are mandated by federal and state laws and regulations. Our purpose is to help people care adequately for themselves and family members with the least level of assistance possible.

It is the mission of the Genesee County Soil and Water Conservation District to work directly with county landowners to provide for the conservation of soil and water resources, improvement of water quality, and prevention of floodwater and sediment damages, thereby protecting the natural resource base and promoting health, safety, and general welfare of the county residents.

Veterans

Your local County Veterans Service Office is where you go if you are a veteran who was hurt and injured during your service and is still suffering today. You need help and assistance, this is where you come. The agency consists of a Service Officer and support staff.  The County Veterans Service Officer has a compassionate understanding of the problems which confront veterans, widows, widowers, and dependent children.   Through monthly meetings and annual training, Veterans Service Officers are aware of laws passed by the U.S. Congress in the interests of veterans and their dependents, and they are familiar with the rules and regulations adopted by the Department of Veterans Affairs to clarify and implement those laws.  County Veterans Service Officers are well-versed in state laws as well, from veterans’ real property tax exemptions to NY State blind annuity benefits.

As a part of county government the Youth Bureau can plan, coordinate, and supplement activities of public, private, and religious agencies devoted to the welfare and protection of youth.  The Bureau is responsible to the Chief Executive and funded, in part, by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. The Youth Bureau’s programs have grown and changed over the years, but its main purposes remain the same.  It assists with the development and funding of programs that encourage positive youth development.  These programs help motivate young people to develop a sense of responsibility and make a positive contribution to their communities.
