Genesee Justice

Judicial Diversion Program

The Judicial Diversion Diversion program is intended to provide an alternative track for specially identified cases within the Court system. Cases referred to this program involve the placement of an individual on a 6 to 12 month diversion, with specific conditions that are determined on a case-by-case basis. All cases must be screened through the Genesee County District Attorney’s Office, Defense Attorney and the Court of jurisdiction. The case is then referred to Genesee Justice to determine appropriateness.

A critical component of the Judicial Diversion is the involvement of the victim in this process. All cases with an identified victim involve the victim being contacted by Genesee Justice to review the circumstances involved in the incident and the victim’s participation in helping to establish the conditions for the defendant. The victim is also invited to participate in a meeting with the defendant to gain a more personal sense of resolution, if they so choose.
Individuals that successfully complete the Judicial Diversion Program are then given special consideration for a reduction in their charges and disposition.
