The 1960’s and Early 1970’s In  Genesee County

Genesee County Historians Association provided the funding for a 2011-2012 AmeriCorps Member to work with the Genesee County History Department’s Volunteers to create an index of local articles from the Batavia Daily Newspaper.  The time period researched included  January 1, 1960 through December 31, 1974.  These articles document over a decade of social changes, reactions to the assassinations of leaders, space exploration and civil defense.  Local issues include the development of the Genesee Community College, Batavia’s Urban Renew and the Attica State Prison riot.

The project resulted into 9 binders with a subject index.  Without the AmeriCorps program and our AmeriCorps Member, Ruth Koch and our dedicated Volunteers, this project would never have been accomplished!
