Justice For Children Project Coordinator

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This is a responsible position concerned with the day to day implementation and operation of the Justice for Children Project.  The incumbent will coordinate the activities of a multi-disciplinary team convened to improve and prioritize the standing and dignity of child victims.  The duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Genesee County Justice Program Director.  Does related tasks, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assist the Program Director in all operations of the Justice for Children Team and Child Advocacy Center:
Conduct daily operations of the Justice for Children Program including the Child Advocacy Center;
Convene and meet with multi-disciplinary team members on a routine basis;
Coordinate forensic interviews and/or medical examinations performed at the Center;
Establish an effective networking system amongst all agency team members involved;
Review and update interagency protocols;
Develop close linkage with the district Attorney’s Office for effective case prosecution and child sexual abuse trauma reduction;
Develop good public relations and community awareness training;
Plan and establish relevant training for agency team members;
Establish and maintain good working relationships with Program consultants;
Develop an evaluation document for use by parent advocates of child sexual abuse victims;
Attend appropriate training and conferences.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Good knowledge of the characteristics and needs of child abuse victims; good knowledge of community agencies, facilities, and services which can be utilized to aid victims of child abuse; working knowledge of criminal justice system and of the County/Local Departments involved in the system; ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to organize tasks and to compile and maintain reports; Computer Skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is also required to drive a vehicle.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distant vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education, AND EITHER:

  1. Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Psychology, Education or related field, from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university, PLUS one year of full-time, paid experience working in a criminal justice agency or an agency providing services to abused children;
    OR:
  2. Possession of an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Social Science or related field, from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university, PLUS three (3) years of full-time, paid experience working in a criminal justice agency or an agency providing services to abused children.
