Media Cetner Aide

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is an entry level position in which the incumbent would assist the Library Media Specialist in both the library and computer lab troubleshooting problems as they occur with a variety of media.  The Media Aid would help faculty and/or students with equipment, software, resources and/or procedures. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Library Media Specialist or Teacher in charge of the Library.  Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assists Library Media Specialist with the following:

Signs students in and out of the Library Media Center (LMC) and Computer Lab;
Controls noise level and monitors productivity of students;
Assists students in selecting and locating LMC materials;
Fills requests for Inter-Library Loan (ILL) and keeps records of ILL transactions;
Maintains library materials by processing books for cataloging, pulling materials requested, running circulation, re-shelving books, labeling and filing periodicals and performing minor book repairs;
Collects and records triage helpdesk calls;
Installs software as requested;
Cares for and helps maintain equipment such as cleaning and setting up;
Participates in training programs as available;
Reports all incidents or problems connected to instructional technology to Technology Coordinator;

Serves as resource to staff;

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of computer skills, use and applications; good knowledge of Microsoft Word software; working knowledge of library filing and shelving rules; ability to read and follow computer program instructions; ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to student and faculty information and passwords; ability to deal with faculty and students in a professional manner; good judgment; good communications skills; detail oriented; initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education.
