Media Service Specialist

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Schedules, receives, stores, and distributes a variety of media equipment, supplies, and materials and assists in operating such equipment.  Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policy and procedures, with leeway allowed for exercise Of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work.  Supervision may be exercised over the work of student assistants.  Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Serves as front office information source and processes requests for media services;
Operates complex media equipment such as projectors, video, and related media production equipment;
Operates personal computer with word processing, E-mail, and spreadsheet software;
Serves as backup operator for satellite reception equipment, cable TV distribution network, video duplication system, and TV studio production and editing equipment;
Maintains and generates reports;
Delivers equipment and material to classrooms and faculty, on and off campus;
Organizes instructional materials;
Distributes supplies and equipment;
Instructs faculty, staff, students, and community patrons in the operation of equipment, procedures for accessing materials, and copyright and licensing issues.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of instructional technology/media terminology and equipment, both mechanical and electronic (projection devices, audio and video recorders, duplicating equipment).  Working knowledge of office equipment, including computers.  Familiarity with cataloging, record-keeping, and reporting procedures.  Ability to carry out complex directions and interpret policy to diverse clientele.  Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through, and time management skills.  Ability to get along well with others; resourcefulness; good judgment; good communication skills; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School or possession of an equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education and EITHER:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered College or University with an Associate Degree;
    OR:
  2. Two (2) years of full-time, paid experience in Media Services or related field;
    OR:
  3. Any combination of training and experience indicating ability to perform the duties.
