Medical Service Coordinator

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in the City of Batavia Fire Department and involves responsibility for developing and coordinating a program to ensure the efficient delivery of emergency medical services in the County.  The incumbent works with private, public and voluntary emergency medical services in designing and coordinating emergency services personnel.  Administrative supervision is received from the Fire Chief or his designee with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out work activities.  Supervision may be exercised over subordinate employees.  Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Purchases, inventories, and safeguards drugs and other related medical supplies;
Conducts training classes for employees for purposes of certification and re- certification;
Maintains EMT-4 paramedic proficiency level and State Certification through regular training and testing requirements;
Maintains personnel records for purposes of payroll, scheduling, and other related personnel issues;
Manages and handles all patient documents for purposes of billing and record keeping;
Assists in maintaining quality assurance through document review and training and education of employees;
Coordinates and schedules inter-facility and non-emergency patient transfers;
Maintains pertinent budget information and submits budget proposals when required;
Maintain a full schedule of human and physical resources for related work as required;
Maintains a high level of competency in the use and application of computers and work related software;
Prepares appropriate records and reports as needed.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of emergency medical health services; thorough knowledge of trends and developments in the field of emergency medical health services; good knowledge of day-to-day operations and staffing needs of ambulance services; good knowledge of EMS training programs/techniques; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; ability to prepare informational materials; ability to prepare written material.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education, AND, five (5) years of full-time, paid experience in providing or instructing emergency medical services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and valid Paramedic certificate.
