Senior Chauffeur

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This is routine supervisory work involving responsibility for supervising and assigning subordinates and participating in the safe and efficient operation and care of passenger vehicles, and rendering assistance in the appropriate way to augment the mobility of clients of a facility offering programs utilized by aged, infirm, or handicapped persons and/or delivery of meals to disabled and elderly individuals.  The work is performed in accordance with well established procedures with some leeway for independent judgment in carrying out the details of the job.  Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Operates specially-equipped or regular motor vehicle for transport of aged, infirm, or handicapped persons and/or delivery of meals to disabled and elderly individuals;
Assist Superior with the coordination of van utilization, scheduling of trips, and maintaining standard routes;
Under guidance and supervision, assists in training and monitoring the work of subordinates;
Responsible for cleaning the assigned vehicles and scheduling regular service and preventive maintenance;
Assist program participants in moving about within buildings where activities are scheduled;
Assist participants with rain gear, coats, etc., in inclement weather;
During periods between scheduled activities, performs light cleaning duties and run errands;
Assist in the development and coordination of a volunteer transportation program;
Does necessary paperwork, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education, AND one (1) year of full-time, paid experience which shall have involved driving as a major function of the duties AND six months of supervisory experience,
    OR:
  2. Any equivalent combination of training experience as defined by A above indicating the ability to perform the duties of the job.

Part-time and Volunteer work will be prorated. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATION AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Possession of a valid NYS Drivers license.
