Television Equipment Technician

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  These duties involve responsibility for the operation, adjustment, maintenance and repair of closed circuit color television, video tape and related audio visual equipment at the Community College Learning Resource Center.  The work is performed under supervision of a higher ranking technical employee with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment in carrying out details of the work.  Supervision may be exercised over assigned student assistants.  Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: 
Operates, maintains, repairs and adjusts a variety of closed circuit television and  related instructional electronic equipment, video cameras, video-tape recorders,   television modulators and lighting equipment;
Provides control room adjustment of closed circuit television equipment between the various connected school rooms or buildings;
Confers with college officials and instructors and recommends appropriate closed  circuit television equipment or programming techniques to meet specific needs;
Assists in scheduling, distribution and retrieval of a variety of media equipment such as films, tapes, slides and records;
Operates equipment at a closed circuit television studio and related audio recording facilities for an inter-school building distribution system;
Provides technical data and assists in contemplated purchase of new closed circuit           television equipment for the community college;
Instructs selected students and teaching personnel in operation and use of a variety of closed circuit television and related audio visual equipment;
Maintains and repairs a variety of audio visual equipment such as film or slide projectors and tape recorders;
Assists in the installation of closed circuit television and related audio visual  equipment, components and systems;
Maintains an inventory of supply and replacement parts and equipment used in maintaining the closed circuit television and audio visual equipment in good working order;
Keeps and prepares a variety of records and reports.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: :  Good knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, tools and equipment used in the television and electronic equipment repair trade; ability to acquire a working knowledge of closed circuit and video tape television systems, designs and specifications; ability to install, repair, maintain and locate technical defects in a variety of electronic, audio visual and closed circuit television equipment; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; good physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education, and:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or technical institute with an Associate degree in Electronics   or Electrical Technology and one year of experience in the installation,   maintenance and repair of television, electronic and audio visual  equipment;
    OR:

  2.   Three years of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of television, electronic and audio visual equipment;
    OR:

  3. Any equivalent combination of training and experience indicating the ability to perform the duties of the job.
