For a listing of financial benefits that you may be eligible for, visit http://www.BenefitsCheckUp.org. By putting in your information without giving your social security number, name or any other identifying information, you can receive a list of potential benefits that you are likely eligible for.

Elderly Prescription Insurance Coverage (EPIC)

This program is available to those aged 65 years of age or older. This program saves money on prescription drugs. There are income guidelines for this program. Contact the Genesee County Office for the Aging at (585) 343-1611 for an appointment and/or application. Assistance with completing the application is also available. The New York State EPIC can also be reached at 1-800-332-3742 or at www.health.state.ny.us/health_care/epic.

Food Stamps

Food stamps are electronic coupons that can be used as cash for buying food in stores and can be used in restaurants. Applications are available at the Genesee County Office for the Aging or through the Genesee County Department of Social Services. Contact the Genesee County Department of Social Services at (585) 344-2580 for income guidelines.

Medicare

Medicare helps pay for certain health care costs. Medicare Part A pays for hospital, skilled nursing facility and homecare; Medicare Part B pays for physician care, whether in or out of the hospital, home care, durable medical equipment, lab and outpatient care; while Medicare Part D helps pay for prescription drug cost. In order to be eligible for this program, an individual must be 65 years or older or has received Social Security Disability for a period of twenty four (24) months. Information and applications are available through the Social Security Administration that can be reached at 1-866-931-7103 or 1-800-772-1213.  Call the Genesee County Office for the Aging at (585) 343-1611 to sign up for the next Medicare 101 class.

2023 Benefits at a Glance Chart

Income eligibility has been expanded for the Medicare Savings Program (MSP) in New York, individuals with Medicare who have an income up to $2,280 per month and couples with monthly incomes up to $3,077 may now be eligible. Medicaid

Medicaid pays a full range of health care expenses including those not covered by Medicare, such as custodial care, eyeglasses, and dental. A Department of Social Services application with documentation needs to be completed. For an application, contact the Genesee County Office for the Aging at (585) 343-1611.

Medigap Insurance/HMO

Please contact the Genesee County Office for the Aging Health Insurance Counseling Program at (585) 343-1611 for an appointment.

Social Security

Social Security provides incomes for insured workers, and for certain spouses, divorced spouses, the disabled, children and surviving dependent parents. Contact the Social Security Administration office at 1-866-931-7103 or 1-800-772-1213 or www.ssa.gov.

Veteran Benefits

These benefits that are available for veterans or spouses of veterans may include pensions, medical care and prescription drugs, vocational rehabilitation, education, home loans, compensation, burial and other benefits.
