Certified Nursing Assistant

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Employees in this title must have the NYS certification to perform routine non-professional care services for residents at the Genesee County Nursing Home. Incumbents care for resident needs as identified through resident assessments and as described in the resident care plans. Work is subject to NYS regulations with actual duties performed under the direct supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Professional Nurse (RPN). Incumbents may be mandated to work overtime when necessary to meet staffing requirements. Does related work, as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assists residents in the performance of activities of daily living (ADL);
Assists nursing team with positioning and restraint needs as may be identified by the resident’s care plan;
Performs range of motion exercises with residents;
Observes and describes resident behavior and makes status reports to the nurse in charge;
May assist with medication administration in accordance with the NYS Dept. of Health Adult Home regulations at the direction of a supervisor;
Labels and stores patients clothes and turns over resident’s valuables to the nurse in charge;
Carries out appropriate infection control precautions and safety procedures;
May be assigned to clean and sterilize facility equipment;
May be required to move room furniture, fixtures and supplies to provide a safe environment for a resident;
May be required to transport or accompany residents to various appointments;
Attend in service training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (75-95% of the time worked) required to sit, bend, stoop, pull and push, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms including lifting of arms over the head. The employee is required to walk, stand for long periods of time, talk, read and hear.

The employee must frequently (75-95% of time worked) lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and position residents as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus and visually observe residents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Nursing Assistant Certification issued by NYS or possession of a valid license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Completion of annual requirement of in-service hours for retention of NYS Nursing Assistant Certification.
